Research Vision/Mission Statement & Goals

The Research Mission for the Department of Surgery is to make it as easy as possible for surgeons in our Department to participate in research as part of their clinical duties. 

The goal of the Research Strategic Plan for the Department is to help protect the surgeons who currently participate in research.  It should also consolidate and foster the current research output from our Department for research to become an integral part of surgical practice for all surgeons.

Research Objectives for Department of Surgery

• Define the position of surgeon-scientist in our Department including a definition of protected time that would have clear outcome measures
• Within the next two to five years, increase the percentage of surgeon-scientists in our Department to 10%
• Within the next two to five years, increase the research funding obtained by members of our Department with 10%
• Within the next two to five years, increase the number of published manuscripts by members of our Department with 10%
