Research is an integral part of the academic mission of the Dalhousie Department of Surgery. Commitment to excellence in research propels a clinical academic department forward. We strive to positively impact patient care in the province of Nova Scotia. We continue to support young faculty and student investigators in reaching excellence.
Committee Activities
- Participate and promote the research mandate of the Department
- Develop research policies for the Department, partnering with both the Medical School and Department of Health and Wellness to promote a broad-based research program
- Prioritize and establish themes for research efforts at both departmental and divisional levels
- Promote and establish cross-linkages with other research groups outside the Department of Surgery
- Establish pathways for and promote linkages for graduate students outside of Department of Surgery to work with our faculty and trainees
- Make recommendations to the Chair regarding departmental research funding awards, grants, visiting professors and planning of research events/activities
- Oversee the Surgical Clinical Investigator Program and Department Resident Research Award
- Monitor and advocate for Protected Research Time for Department Faculty
- Maintain and manage present metrics for research productivity
